FOX will be airing the next two episodes of 'Dollhouse' back-to-back on Friday, Dec 4th, starting at 8pm. Let's watch them together! Bring food and drink if you feel so inclined (no alcohol, please as it is in a alcohol-free dorm). There is comfy seating for around 9 and a big flat-screen TV to watch the show on. The room I have reserved for this event is on the Seattle University campus in Seattle's Capitol Hill area. There is street parking available around the area. The door is locked to non-students past 7pm, so just text me and I will let you in (or you can just follow someone else inside). I hope to see you all there! Becky 360-643-1342

Neptune Coffee on Greenwood is hosting another Trivia Night. This time its about the entire Whedonverse rather than just Buffy. There can be up to 6 people per team, and I would advise you get there early because the seats fill up. I don't actually know if I'll be able to make this one, but I thought I would make it available in case people want to organize on the Boards.

So I've been thinking about other ways that we can meet and do things besides just watching the series (though I do love that too) and I really would like to have a meeting to discuss issues that have been brought up in the recent Season 8 comics - specifically about issues of Power and the Slayer, compared to the series (specifically is Season 8 changing the ideas of "sharing power" that were brought up in "Chosen" and what does this mean?). The Buffy Season 8 arc "Retreat" seems to be a game changer in that regard, and I think a discussion of it would be very interesting (the final issue of Retreat comes out on November 4th). I would love to have people read a brief essay about Power and the Buffyverse, from the online journal Slayage. It might be a little "heavy" but I think if you skim over it, you can get the gist of it. I think there are some very interesting issues being brought up through this, and I'd love to discuss them with fellow Buffy folks. I would like to meet Downtown, at the Diletantte Mocha Cafe (that's an awesome place with good chocolate) in Westlake Center. That way, we are close to my favorite comic book store in Seattle, Zanadu, so if anybody would like to pick up a copy of the comic, they could. I'll bring my copies of course. We can discuss the topic for awhile, and then go to get some drinks or food at a bar somewhere, or we could walk the mile or so back to my house and watch the eps in question. I feel like we're pretty much familiar with the eps though, so I'd love to look at more "meta-themes" . I'll bring a few of my critical Buffy Reviews essay books. There are also some interesting parallels to "Dollhouse" if you'd like to talk about that. I realize this is completely different from what we normally do - so if there aren't enough people interested, I'll cancel it. I just wanted to do something different from what we normally do and I've been thinking about this Power issue in Season 7 vs 8 quite a bit lately. I guess Season 8 has the whole Spiderman "Great Power/Great Responsibility" theme - and what happens when people abuse power?

Hey! For those who aren't already well versed in the brilliance that is The Guild, it is a web series written by and starring Felicia Day (Vi on Buffy, S. 7). The show centers around the real lives of the people that make up a World of Warcraft guild and their various struggles in dealing with reality. Because snowpocalypse prevented many of you from coming to the December meetup (even though it was still a lot of fun) I've decided to show both seasons instead of just the 2nd. So if you haven't seen the show yet or just want a refresher, now's your time! Because each "season" is only 45 minutes long we'll have plenty of time to check out the DVD extras and watch a couple of the Buffy episodes we all know and love. So come, one and all, and bask with me in the den of magic that is Cafe Racer for what should be a damn fine evening!

Neptune Coffee in North Seattle is having a Buffy Trivia night on Friday August 28th. It starts at 8 PM. I don't know if I'm going to be able to go to this, but I thought I would give it a "heads-up" and put it as an "Unofficial Meetup". Neptune Coffee's Trivia website is here. Rules - teams must be 6 people at most. Feel free to use the "comments" section to organize a group if you'd like to go. It should be fun - and good coffee.

Again - NOTHING to do with Buffy, but its an awesome Seattle Event that is so much fun. We're going to watch the AIR SHOW on the I-90 floating bridge - they open up the bridge and stop traffic so that people can watch the show. The U.S. Navy's premier pilots fly the Blue Angels (I LOVE LOVE LOVE them) along with biplanes, cargo ships, and other fun. They actually shut down I-90 so that you can watch the show. I go every year and watch the Angels. I LOVE THEM. There's usually a great view, people selling food, etc. We may end up going to a late lunch afterwards. The air show runs until 2:30 or so - I'd imagine we'll be done by 4 at the latest. We will stand out on the car deck of the floating bridge and watch the Angels go by. We might even try to watch the Hydroplanes later or whatever people want to do.

his really has NOTHING to do with Buffy but everything to do with our fair City. I LOVE SEAFAIR, and I very much enjoy the parade, so I thought we might want to watch it together. It goes all along 4th Ave. We'll meet in front of the Central Seattle Public Library on 5th Ave (the parade runs along 4th), and then maybe we'll go somewhere else after the parade is done (e.g. a bar). When you RSVP I'll give you my cell phone number so that we can all organize meeting. The parade features the Seafair Pirates, Floats, the BLUE ANGELS (my personal favorite), lots of local bands, etc. Bring any kind of glowing thing that you might have. The parade should last about an hour or so - I've been to the parade for the past 10 years or so. I try never to miss one :)

I've been doing a lot of thinking about it and it occurs to me that not once have we screened episodes from Season 1 since I started coming to this group last year. Sure, it's rougher around the edges, has the goofy effects, forced dialogue, and is probably the campiest Buffy had ever been, next to the movie of course. Having said that, there are a lot of awesome things to be had in that season, so that's what we'll be watching on the 25th! Well, the last 4 episodes anyway. So that's "The Puppet Show," "Nightmares," "Out of Mind, Out of Sight," and of course, "Prophecy Girl". As menu placement at Cafe Racer isn't exactly obvious, take a chance to visit their website and check out their food and drink options.

The Seattle Browncoats are screening Joss Whedon's Serenity to raise money for Equality Now (www.equalitynow.org ). Tickets are on sale right this very second at www.cstsseattle.org. This is the event's fourth year, and we're stepping it up. Here's the agenda: 5 p.m. - film starts (an actual 35mm print) 7 p.m. - raffle drawing 7:30 p.m. - catered dinner 8:30 p.m. - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on the big screen! Please note that there are a limited number of tickets. For only $30 you can get all this fun. If you want nothing more than to see Serenity and enter the raffle, you can get a movie-only ticket for only $15. Oh, and parking is FREE! T-shirts and raffle tickets are also available online. This is a great cause. Equality Now, Joss Whedon's chosen charity, fights discrimination and violence against women and girls all over the world. We have high hopes for this year's event, which is so much more than we've done in the past. The buzz is out there, and people are already buying tickets. Don't miss out; get your tickets today. You must have a ticket to attend this Meetup.
