Worldwide Buffy Meetup Message Board › Buffy Musical OMWF Singalong in theaters.

Hi. This was talked about in the Boston board but I wanted to take this global. There was a screening of the musical episode at a Midnight Movie at a local theature as a Rocky Horror like singalong. I was so taken with it and the idea I started a website:
http://www.buffysinga... There has been a lot of positive response to this but also people say how can we get this in our city? I think there is influence with large groups of people and if meetup groups get together and approach theater managers with the idea giving examples and using some of the documentation on my site and maybe from cons etc, you could get it started! This would be great if it becomes a new worldwide phenomenon like Rocky Horror!!! And not just in theaters but at cons as well! Edited by Cyberdave on Jan 11, 2005 10:03 PM |

Isn't that episode only an hour? I don't know how many people would pay to see a one hour tv show in a theatre. Actually, that's one hour with the commercials, which would be cut out.

Oh, how I wish that I could find out about fun things like this BEFORE, rather than after the fact.
OMWF ran over an hour (+8 min?) in air-time, that's why FX cuts it when rebroadcasting. The live show might run less of course, without commercials, but then I remember all the scene changes, and I'll bet that it couldn't be performed live in less than one hour. So it's reasonable to stage it. And it was FREE, huh? Wow. Thanks for the info & the link! ![]() |

It's about 53 minutes long.
Hilly, I think you misunderstand. It's not live, it's a screening and the audience can sing along - like you do in your living room when you watch the episode - with a lot more people than you can fit in your living room. |

Ok well yes however long it is that's why they made it a double feature and screened HUSH after OMWF!!!
As for how many people would pay for it, this one was free and 600 people showed up and the theature was full! I think all of those people would have paid to see it and there was a screening in Texas which was not free. I believe there would be a big demand for this given the reaction I have seen online and in the theature and hopefully my website will increase awareness and getting people to get it screened in other cities! |

Thats such an awesome idea.. I would be up for doing that in NY/Long Island. Or it would be cool if there was actually a musicial play where buffy fans can act or sing in. Just an idea

Hi Jenn - if you can get into Manhattan, you're welcome to meet up with us on Sunday if your group isn't getting together... or even if they are.
(Deep spooky voice) JOIN US! Oh, and tell your organizer that Meetup will not cancel an event because there's less than 5 RSVPs. That's up to the organizer to decide and do. |

Oh, and tell your organizer that Meetup will not cancel an event because there's less than 5 RSVPs. That's up to the organizer to decide and do. Hi, Gypsy - Jenn's Organizer knows who makes the decision: it's the Members. Both individually and also as a group. Specifically, if Jenn and 3 other people can't make it, then the Organizer shouldn't be obligated to sit alone at the venue. 5 is a low enough number when you calculate the percentage & probability of no shows. (Just this month, I Organized a Meetup event for a Group with nearly 900 members. I got ~15 Yes/Maybe RSVPs, and yet only 6 attended. Certainly the restaurant staff was disappointed. ) Moreover, there's safety in numbers. It might actually be dangerous to have only one other member show up. At last count, the Suffolk County Buffy Meetup Group had 30 members total. The next event is on 3/3. If Jenn RSVPs "Yes", and then actually attends, she might prevent future event cancellations. That's how it's decided. But now this conversation has gone off-topic for the thread, so we should continue it elsewhere. |
